I was living in Jacksonville, Florida and being retired, everyday was heaven on earth. I wake up and it is dark, I get into my 4 wheel jeep filled with my surf fishing gear, 4 surf rods, tackle boxes filled with extra hooks, sinkers, leaders, and more. A cooler with lunch, a couple of beers, and heading to say prayers. I stop for a coffee and the sun is looking like it is just wanting to peak at the new day. I am getting out on Route 95 and heading south to Crescent Beach just south of St. Augustine. I turn off Route 95 and now I am heading due east as the skyline starts to get brighter. I am 338 pounds and have a giant full beard, gray of course, I am just turning 65, so I am loving every minute. As the road dead ends at Route A1A, I travel a few miles south on A1A to my bait shop called Devil's Elbow. I get a pound of dead shrimp and put it in my cooler and head back to the access road to the beach. There is about 7 miles on the beach that I can ride and the sea breeze is warm and now the sun is almost ready to say hi. I look for a good spot to stop and park, and now I am ready to set up the rods, I back down near the water and put my 4 sand spikes in and start baiting my rods, I cast past the breaking waves and let the bottom hold my shrimp baits, all 4 rods are out now and I am setting up my beach chair, my coffee is great and this is when I pray... thanking God and everything he has given me, meanwhile one of my rods is banging with a fish on... I run to the rod and pull back to hook the fish, yes, it is a good one... when I get it to the beach it is a nice whiting. As I look up the most breath taking scene is unfolding, the sun has begun to appear over the misty horizon, and the sound of surf lapping onto the sea shells on the beach is mezmarizing. It is a typical day for me and I felt like I was in heaven. The ocean is warm and hitting my feet as the tide moves in on me. I finish my day with a cooler full of nice whiting and a good amount of vitamin D, yes, a strong tan.
It is September, and the Football season has started so I meet a friend at a sports bar on the beach to watch some games, a friend sees me and asks how I am doing and I say that I don't feel very well and that I might have cancer. I was just kidding him, but I did feel a lump in my throat under my left ear. The year was 2015 and the lump was the size of a grape but in 7 days, the lump became the size of a softball, so I went to my doctor and she measured and said oh, my you must go to emergency room, she is Korean... I went to Shands hospital and the stuck me seven times to get a specimen and after 7 days in the hospital thet determined I had cancer and it was stage 4, I left my small piece of heaven and got a one way plane fare to Baltimore, Md. where I got treated at the VA hospital, my cancer was in-operable. I was not supposed to live in fact, a had to be admitted to the hospital for 30 days because my body had no more white blood cells left, I received 2 blood transfusions and I asked God to take me home 2x. In October, I will be 5 years out of cancer's grip. In 2018, I noticed a lump swelling on my right side of my throat, so I came to Atlanta, where my kids live and grand-kids... the doctors operated and could not find any cancer. They stuck me 30 times with a big biopsy needle but could not determine any evidence of cancer. I treat my body with several things to keep the cancer away, CBD oil from the cannabis plant has been significant, I am now using something that is just been registered by the FDA, it is a HGH human growth hormone gel, I also use Alkaline water, I go to ENT every 6 months now for getting my throat scoped.
